The tea-leaf reading
Turn the shapes left in a cup into a map of images, movements, and possible paths.
What you’ll need
- Loose-leaf tea
- A light-colored cup and saucer
- Hot water
- A notebook
The ritual
- Brew the tea directly in the cup and drink slowly, leaving a spoonful of liquid with the leaves.
- When the cup is cool enough to handle, turn it three times and invert it over the saucer for a moment.
- Turn the cup upright. Read shapes near the rim as near events, the middle as developing matters, and the base as deeper influences.
- Sketch three forms you can see and write the first word each one calls to mind. Read the words together as your message.
