The key on a thread
Suspend an old key above a drawn map of options and watch where its motion settles.
What you’ll need
- A small key
- Strong thread
- Paper and pencil
The ritual
- Tie the thread firmly through the key and draw a circle divided into the options you are considering.
- Hold the thread so the key hangs above the center, then wait until it becomes still.
- Ask which path needs closer examination and observe the first section over which the key makes a steady arc.
- Write the indicated option at the top of a page and list what you need to learn before choosing it.
