The rosemary gate abundance
A rosemary gate working with permission, refusal, and the gate between them to focus attention on sustainable resources and the next practical step.
Meaning and practice
The rosemary gate form approaches focus attention on sustainable resources and the next practical step through permission, refusal, and the gate between them. Rosemary marks an arch that can welcome, bar, or redirect rather than merely stand open. That symbolism gives the rite its limit: the object can expose a decision, but only the following action can carry it into life.
Write one welcome and one refusal on opposite sides of the paper. That demand is what distinguishes this rosemary gate rite from another abundance: its conclusion depends on the specific problem carried by a rosemary sprig, not on a generic promise of change.
Sources behind this working
The Folk-lore of Plants

The source records historical uses and meanings of objects in the same family as a rosemary sprig. Rosemary marks an arch that can welcome, bar, or redirect rather than merely stand open. This working applies that documented motif to focus attention on sustainable resources and the next practical step; its wording and sequence are original to Okkult.
What you’ll need
- A rosemary sprig
- A drinking glass half-filled with water
- Two small cards and pencil
- Five dry beans
- A small bowl
The ritual
- Rinse the rosemary, pat it dry, and trim no more than is needed to make a single flexible sprig. Stand it in water until the cards are ready. Arrange the workspace specifically for this abundance, removing anything that will not be used.
- Record one concrete resource goal and the next action that supports it on the tag, card, label, or paper provided. Assign the beans to money, time, skill, tools, and help. Remove any resource irrelevant to the goal. Keep this question visible while you work: “What deserves passage, and what have you admitted only from habit?”
- Trace a small arch over the paper with the rosemary, moving from left to right. Align a rosemary sprig with the written quantity, date, or resource so the desired abundance remains measurable.
- Move the scarcest bean closest to the object, say “What I tend with care has room to grow,” and write one welcome and one refusal on opposite sides of the paper.
- Place the rosemary in water for one night, then compost it. Take the written financial, work, or household action within one day.
