THE GRIMOIRE / LOVE & CONNECTION

The four corner accord

A four corner working with perimeter, orientation, and pressure arriving from several directions to strengthen a willing, reciprocal bond through attention and care.

Meaning and practice

The four corner form approaches strengthen a willing, reciprocal bond through attention and care through perimeter, orientation, and pressure arriving from several directions. Four tokens turn an abstract boundary into a shape with distinct points of strain. That symbolism gives the rite its limit: the object can expose a decision, but only the following action can carry it into life.

Assign home, work, body, and attention to the corners; reinforce only the weakest. That demand is what distinguishes this four corner rite from another accord: its conclusion depends on the specific problem carried by four matching buttons or tokens, not on a generic promise of change.

Sources behind this working

The Book of Talismans, Amulets and Zodiacal Gems

William Thomas and Kate Pavitt · 1922

The source records historical uses and meanings of objects in the same family as four matching buttons or tokens. Four tokens turn an abstract boundary into a shape with distinct points of strain. This working applies that documented motif to strengthen a willing, reciprocal bond through attention and care; its wording and sequence are original to Okkult.

What you’ll need

  • Four matching buttons or tokens
  • A square sheet of paper
  • A ruler
  • A pencil
  • Two lengths of ribbon in different colors
  • Two paper labels

The ritual

  1. Draw a square at the center of the paper and label its four sides. Count the tokens before placing them so none is left unaccounted for. Arrange the workspace specifically for this accord, removing anything that will not be used.
  2. Label the ribbons SELF and OTHER. Answer “Which corner is least defended, and which is guarded far beyond need?” without crossing them.
  3. Place one token at each corner of the written intention. Keep four matching buttons or tokens separate from any token representing another person; closeness in this accord must leave room for refusal.
  4. Lay the ribbons parallel, speak “Care is freely given, freely received, and never compelled,” and make one loose loop in each separately. Assign home, work, body, and attention to the corners; reinforce only the weakest.
  5. Gather the tokens clockwise and store them together. Carry out the caring action without trying to control another person’s feelings.
