THE GRIMOIRE / LOVE & CONNECTION

The candle mirror accord

A candle mirror working with projection and the heat created by watching yourself to strengthen a willing, reciprocal bond through attention and care.

Meaning and practice

A mirror beside an unlit candle separates self-scrutiny from illumination. In a accord, this turns a small intact mirror and an unlit candle into a test of projection and the heat created by watching yourself. The object matters because it forces an answer through placement, pressure, sound, or movement rather than through wishful language.

Write what you believe others see, then mark what you actually know. That demand is what distinguishes this candle mirror rite from another accord: its conclusion depends on the specific problem carried by a small intact mirror and an unlit candle, not on a generic promise of change.

The source records historical uses and meanings of objects in the same family as a small intact mirror and an unlit candle. A mirror beside an unlit candle separates self-scrutiny from illumination. This working applies that documented motif to strengthen a willing, reciprocal bond through attention and care; its wording and sequence are original to Okkult.

What you’ll need

  • A small intact mirror and an unlit candle
  • A dark cloth large enough to cover the mirror
  • A stable candle holder
  • A card and pencil
  • Two different buttons
  • A length of pink cotton thread

The ritual

  1. Inspect the mirror for cracks, leave the candle unlit, and angle both so the glass cannot concentrate direct sunlight. Arrange the workspace specifically for this accord, removing anything that will not be used.
  2. Let one button represent you and the other a willing person or relationship. Write the caring action each remains free to refuse. Keep this question visible while you work: “Are you meeting your own gaze or performing beneath it?”
  3. Angle the mirror so the unlit candle and written intention appear together. Keep a small intact mirror and an unlit candle separate from any token representing another person; closeness in this accord must leave room for refusal.
  4. Lay the thread between the buttons without tying them together. Say “Care is freely given, freely received, and never compelled,” leave a finger-width gap, and write what you believe others see, then mark what you actually know.
  5. Cover the mirror, move the candle away, and store both safely. Carry out the caring action without trying to control another person’s feelings.
